Tara Lundmark grew up as a bilingual, third culture kid in vibrant communities in Mexico, Guatemala, Spain, and Bolivia. From a young age, she made friends with classmates from all over the world and became fascinated with the rich histories of each country.
Upon graduating from high school in Mexico City, she attended Brigham Young University in Utah where she met her husband, Erik, and earned a BA in International Relations. Passionate about the positive impact of cross-cultural understanding, Tara worked in Washington, DC, organizing cultural exchange programs for a State Department contractor.
When Erik graduated from medical school and signed on as a physician for the U.S. Army, Tara was pleased to give her two children the opportunity she had as a child—to experience new cultures as they moved to Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, and Texas. Tara traded grant-writing and diplomatic conferences for PTAs and volunteer work in the creative arts programs at her children’s schools.
Tara now combines her passion for sharing immersive cultural experiences with her love of working with children and teens by writing YA fiction. As an avid reader, she knows books can take you places you’ve never been and help you understand people you’ve never met. It goes without saying that her stories are all inspired by the magical places she’s lived in and visited.
Tara Lundmark has spent more than ten years writing fiction and is an active member of SCBWI. Having lived across the globe from South America to Europe, Alaska to Hawaii, and many places in between, she understands the value of seeing the world from a different perspective.
